Date

Location

Camano Island, WA

This project addresses a complex shoreline site that includes saltwater marsh, woodland, and steep slopes. The design focuses on restoring ecological function while stabilizing the landscape and preparing it for long-term growth.

Initial work centers on the removal of invasive species, including mature ivy, St. John’s wort, and blackberry, to re-establish the underlying structure of the site. This clearing phase is critical to allow for new planting that is suited to the conditions of the shoreline and surrounding landscape.

The planting approach draws from coastal and native plant communities, with an emphasis on species that support pollinators and respond to salt exposure, slope, and soil conditions. Installation will be phased to ensure successful establishment and to address erosion and stability across the site.

The result will be a landscape that works with the existing environment—stabilizing the shoreline, supporting habitat, and developing over time into a cohesive, site-responsive system.
