Urban Habitat Garden | Seattle, WA
Project type
Landscape Renovation
Date
May 2021
Location
Seattle, WA
Role
Lead Designer
This front garden was redesigned to replace a traditional lawn with a more layered and ecologically responsive planting approach.
The space is organized to provide structure from the street while supporting habitat, using a predominantly native palette suited to the conditions of the site. Planting is layered for seasonal change, creating visual interest while also providing resources for pollinators and birds.
A flagstone path establishes circulation through the garden, leading to a small seating area that allows the space to be experienced from within. The layout balances openness with enclosure, creating a front yard that is both visually engaging and usable.
The result is a garden that contributes to the surrounding landscape while functioning as habitat—structured, intentional, and designed to mature over time.
